Build Your Confidence as a Teacher
Become a Confident, Heart-Centered Yoga Teacher & Deepen Your Practice in 200 Hours.
Completed my training at Asheville Yoga Center in 2018, and it genuinely changed the trajectory of my life. It was an experience I will never forget. For the first time, my perspective on life began to make sense. As simple or even corny as that may sound, the training helped me recognize the infinite possibilities of how we live, think, and relate to the world. The depth of information was profound. It opened doors to subjects I had never explored so deeply before, from different cultures and philosophies to belief systems and ways of life. That experience sparked years of continued study, reflection, and growth, and I am only now completing the paperwork to formally submit my training, which speaks to how meaningful and long-lasting the impact has been…Asheville Yoga Center offered far more than a certification. It provided a powerful, immersive experience that continues to influence how I see life, learning, and possibility.
“I cannot recommend Asheville Yoga Center highly enough. Not only does the 200-hr YTT build community and provide a growing space for individuals–it prepares you to be an informed, inclusive, and heart-felt yoga teacher. One of my favorite things about the program was the variation in teachers and lecturers. Each weekend, we learned from our lead teachers and then guest teachers would come and teach on a topic or subject area of their expertise. This made the content of the training incredibly rich. The experience and knowledge of each of the lectures was truly incredible and such a gift to have in the Southeast. I signed up for the training with the intention to grow my own personal practice and left inspired to share and teach yoga to others. Regardless of how nervous I was, teaching my first class showed me how prepared I actually was to teach as a result of the AYC YTT. I had all of the tools I needed to plan a successful class, from how to channel my inspiration into a theme connected to yoga philosophy, how to set the energy of the space, make a great playlist, meditation techniques, how to create accessible and engaging sequences, language to cue and teach the sequences, how to teach pranayama, and so much more. Again, I cannot recommend AYC highly enough. I wish I could take the 200-hr course all over again!” Review Date: Aug 04, 2025.
“I loved the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program! All of the inspirational teachers taught and uplifted the students by teaching from the heart and sharing their yoga journey. We learned to empower our voices, teach impactful yoga classes with skill, personality and imagination while connecting with those we are teaching. Truly a valuable and rewarding experience!”.
“A wonderfully thorough course, with a variety of teachers! AYC provided many facets to learn about yoga–not just the asanas–which I found invaluable. Definitely superior to an online course, many times over!” Review Date: May 21, 2025
My experience with the Asheville Yoga Center teacher training program was transformative, helpful, and deeply educational. The teachers were warm, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to our growth. Their care, presence, and dedication were evident in every session. I felt supported, challenged and inspired by the depth and care of their teaching. Overall, I can’t imagine a higher-quality program and have so much gratitude. It is taking time and effort to continue to unpack and learn from, so that indicates the quality as well!

This program is a good fit for folks who identify with one or more of the following:
You want to give yourself the gift of a time of heart-opening, growth, inspiration, and transformation.
You feel grateful for the yoga experiences you have had so far, and are feeling curious and called to take a deeper journey and learn and integrate more.
You want to strengthen and empower your voice and leadership in a supportive community
You want to inspire and learn to hold a container for others to practice and experience the gifts of yoga.
You’re seeking a training that will support you in practicing being the best version of yourself, and learning to teach in your own sincere voice.
You’ve already completed a 200-hour training, but something inside you is yearning for more, and you're curious to explore the heart-centered aspects teaching yoga.
In this immersive yoga teacher training, you’ll gain a strong foundation in yoga asana, including essential poses, starter sequences, breathing and meditation practices, vinyasa flows, mantras, foundational assists, and an understanding of both the body’s physical and subtle anatomy.
You’ll also learn the practical skills to craft everything from class sequences, guided meditations, pranayama sets, to playlists, all while being supported within a dynamic, interactive, workshop-style environment. The training offers a nurturing and affirming space to build your confidence and deepen your skills step-by-step.
“Teaching From The Heart”covers and goes beyond just teaching physical postures. You will explore yoga history, philosophy, and mythology, experimenting with creative ways to make this rich tradition personal, accessible, and meaningful. We emphasize teaching yoga as a beautiful art form that offers you the opportunity to practice being the best version of yourself. You’ll tap into your creativity while also learning how to effectively communicate with clarity, intention, and passion.
You’ll be guided by a diverse faculty of experienced teachers who are themselves longtime, deeply devoted students of yoga who create an open-hearted, non-dogmatic, supportive space for exploration and growth. As you deepen your practice, you’ll build connections with a community of learners from all walks of life, people who will likely become cherished friends as you support each other in finding authentic ways to share yoga from the heart.
By the end of the training, you’ll be steeped in practices that will be lifelong companions to nurture your physical, mental, and spiritual health. Most importantly, you’ll emerge from this program empowered to practice and teach yoga from the heart, making a meaningful impact in your life and the lives of others.
The bond that is created between participants in our “Teaching From The Heart” training is deep. Many life-long friends have been made over the years. We create a supportive, loving learning environment where we all support each other’s growth. The training is a deep and transformative process that is also filled with lots of friendship, humor, laughter, and play along the way. After the training is complete, we continue to offer opportunities to grow and connect through our alumni community events.
Asheville Yoga Center’s month long Teaching From the Heart 200 hour immersion was incredible. They covered everything from yoga philosophy to poses, breath work, sequencing, etc. The teachers were all very supportive and knowledgeable.
Our Teacher Training faculty are passionate and inspiring yoga educators, who have dedicated their lives to yoga. They are expert “teacher’s teachers” who are deeply supportive and caring of students in our trainings.
We offer two types of training programs to best suit your schedule:
Our 4-week immersion is perfect for students who want to more fully steep in our transformational training process, day in and day out, over a month long period.
In just a couple of months, you can complete your 200 hour requirements and become a Yoga Alliance Certified Instructor and begin teaching yoga.
Our 8-weekend program, spanning over 4 months, is perfect for students who have commitments during the week and find it easier to dedicate concentrated training time during the weekends. This model also allows for time between our sessions to practice and integrate the inspirational content covered in the weekends into your life and daily flow.
Led by: Seán Johnson, Paige Gilchrist, Grace Izzo, & Richard Fabio
Upcoming Sessions:
Friday, April 17 | 11am-12pm

Both programs have the same curriculum. The main difference is the pace of study. Some people prefer to learn while fully immersed in yoga, and others prefer to digest the information a little at a time, over the course of eight weekends in six months.
Our 4-Week Immersion is an intense experience of living, breathing, and dreaming yoga! This dynamic program works well for those who like to focus on one thing at a time or whose schedule allows them to devote four full weeks to the study of yoga. There is time after the training is finished to complete homework assignments.
Our 8-Weekend Program moves at a slower pace, with time to absorb, assimilate, and bring insights from the classroom into your daily life between sessions, which is then followed by regrouping together during training weekends for practice, Q&A, and building on our yoga journey. This program works well for those who need to keep regularity in their daily working and family lives while going through the training program.
We strongly recommend that applicants have at least 6-12 months of consistent asana practice, as a foundation to build upon in the training.

All 200-hour alumni are eligible for:
We have graduated over three thousand 18–73 year olds! The minimum age requirement is 18, and there is no maximum limit, as yoga is not influenced by age, gender, or religion. Regardless of your age, we start off covering the basics of alignment and anatomy so we can build off a solid foundation with sequencing and adjustments.
Our trainings typically run with 10–30 students. Many cohorts do fill, so we recommend enrolling early to secure your spot.
If you’re hoping for a more intimate experience, tell us—we’re happy to point you toward dates and programs that tend to be smaller.
Why a larger group can be a plus: you’ll learn alongside people with a wide range of bodies, backgrounds, and experience levels, which deepens practice, broadens perspective, and enriches partner work.
No matter the cohort size, you’ll receive individualized attention, meaningful feedback, and warm, steady support from our faculty throughout the training.
Absolutely! Many of our students enroll in the “Teaching From The Heart” 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program unsure of whether or not they will teach. Their main priority is to deepen their practice and steep more fully in the inspirational teachings of yoga. Whether you decide to teach after the program or not, the training offers you the opportunity to empower your voice and leadership in all the ways you engage with life– at home, work, service, and in relationships. Our graduates go on to inspire and impact the world in many creative ways.
Our time together in the “Teaching From The Heart” training is precious and packed with important and valuable content. To get the most out of the training, and receive certification, each participant is required to attend 100% of all the sessions, and complete all the homework that is assigned. Please let us know right away if you cannot attend every session.
In the event of an emergency, we will ask you to complete makeup assignments.
Makeup Policy
If a student is not able to attend portions of the training, to receive certification, they are required to book and pay (at a rate of $100 an hour) a private make-up session with an available lead trainer to review missed content/ as close a correlation to missed content as possible. Depending on content, additional assignments may also be required.
2 hours missed = 1 hour private make-up session
4 hours missed = 2 hours private make-up sessions
8 hours missed = 4 hours of private make-up sessions
Please note: Private make-up sessions are booked and paid directly to lead trainer at a rate of $100 an hour.
Please note, if a student misses more than the sum of one weekend of the training (20 hours), even with private make-up sessions, they will not be eligible for certification.
