Katie Freshman

Katie Freshman, E-RYT 500 & YACEP is the owner of Old Fort Yoga and yoga teacher committed to making mindful movement accessible to all bodies and experience levels. She first discovered yoga in the spring of 2009 while attending the University of New Mexico, initially enrolling in a class to fulfill college elective credits. What began as need quickly grew into a deep appreciation for the physical and energetic practice of yoga.

Drawn in by the transformative power of asana, Katie immersed herself in a variety of styles including Ashtanga, Heated Flow, Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative yoga. Her journey deepened after moving to Humboldt County, California, where she discovered the heart-opening philosophy and alignment principles of Anusara Yoga. This period marked a softening in both her practice and perspective, guiding her toward a more compassionate and embodied approach to movement.

Alongside asana, Katie found powerful tools for healing and awareness through Yoga Tune Up® therapy balls and Mindfulness Meditation, practices that encourage exploration beyond the physical postures.

What continues to bring Katie back to the mat is the supportive space yoga offers for cultivating awareness of the breath within a sustainable and adaptable physical practice. Believing this practice invites us to step away from the expectations of the mind and into a more present, compassionate relationship with ourselves.

Through her teaching and her work at Old Fort Yoga, Katie strives to create welcoming spaces where students can reconnect with their bodies, slow down, and discover their own path within the practice.
