Sunday 8:30am – 11:30am

In this training, we explore principle-based therapeutics, meaning that one thing builds on the next. This set of principles or actions in the body will help a number of therapeutic issues that students may have. Every session includes asana, anatomy, body mapping and therapeutic hands-on adjustments. You’ll learn techniques to help students in a classroom setting and in a one-on-one private setting. We look at “inner alignment” or how students align attitudinally, because the outer form always reflects the inner state on some level. You will also learn how to empower your students, – so they can help themselves. Most importantly, together we’ll create a fun learning environment that allows our knowledge and body awareness to flourish.

Learning Objectives:
We will look at how the small injuries of the body connect to the energy body as a whole.
We will increase our understanding of how one set of instructions can help an array of different injuries.
You will learn techniques to help students in a classroom setting and in a one-on-one private setting.
You will learn how to help your students feel empowered, so they are more open to your help and feel they can help themselves.
We will target injuries that we see in a yoga environment such as sciatica, sacral iliac subluxation, low back pain and hamstring tears.
In the shoulder region we will explore injuries such as rotator cuff injury, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and more.
We will explore some of the most common injuries in the body in which their source cause is located in parts of the body in which most people do not have awareness.

Thursday 9:00am – 12:30pm | 2:00 – 5:00pm
The Ankles, Knees, and Hips
This session covers the basics of foundation and yoga therapy. It’s essential to establish how the ankles, knees and hips relate to each other biomechanically, before applying the principles of yoga therapeutics. We will learn how to stabilize the knees, so the hips can open safely.

Friday 9:00am – 12:30pm
The Hips and Low Back - Psoas Awareness
We begin to gain a clearer insight into low back and hip pain and how to relieve it, by increasing our understanding of the psoas muscle and exploring how it links our upper body to our lower extremities. We review the anatomy of the hips, pelvic region and low back so you can heal the “mother hub” – our hips and low back.

Friday 2:00 – 5:00pm
The Hips and Low Back - A Deeper Look
We will cover questions from the previous session. Then, we look at the basics of the musculature; learn why injury happens and how to avoid it next time on a whole body level.

Saturday 9:00am – 12:30pm
The Shoulders
This session reviews the anatomy of the shoulder and yoga therapeutics of the upper body. We explore issues including rotator cuff, back pain and respiratory concerns.

Saturday 2:00 – 5:00pm
The Pelvic Floor with guest Libby Hinsley
In this session we explore how to strengthen, stabilize, stretch and soften the pelvic area to create the correct foundation for each movement in the body. Pelvic floor issues may arise from years of habitual misalignment and harmful movement patterns ingrained in our unconscious body. Everyone is familiar with the term, “working from our core.” However, this approach is only useful if we know what the “core” is. The pelvic floor muscles are an essential part of our deepest core, and core work must involve learning to both tone and balance the pelvic floor. We will investigate how too much tone in the pelvic muscles or lack of tone in this region contributes to weakness, affecting the rest of our body in turn. You’ll learn how to distinguish these imbalances and what to do to develop a strong and well-aligned pelvic floor.

Sunday 8:30 – 11:30am
The Head and Neck
This session reviews neck and head therapy, building on the morning session on shoulders. Awareness of our neck and head can bring clarity and lightness to our entire being. We also include the basics of hand and wrist therapeutics, with a special focus on down dog and other relevant poses.
