Asheville Yoga Center is one of the most popular yoga schools in the Southeast. Our foundational programs are designed to enhance your personal knowledge, deepen your practice and provide you with the confidence and skills necessary to safely experience or teach yoga.
We offer three types of event:
- Yoga workshops (non-certification events)
- 200 Hour RYT training courses
- 300 Hour certified training courses (Advanced Study and Therapeutically-Oriented)

In our bodies, in this moment, there live the seed impulses of the change and spiritual growth we seek, and to awaken them we must bring our awareness into the body, into the here and now. Pat Ogden
Grounded in the most current findings in the fields of trauma research, mindfulness and somatic psychology, this weekend offers exploration and insight into the physiological framework of complex and shock trauma. You will experience and understand how a deep body-mind connection builds resiliency and holds the potential for healing. Our time together will include experiential instruction and engaging dialogue that will move you toward the skillful integration of trauma-sensitive yoga practices into your work with others. You will learn to further this connection by tuning in to the body’s sensations and symptoms and moving deeply through emotional, physiological, imaginal, anatomical, and contemplative landscapes.
Yoga teachers, yoga therapists, mental health counselors, social workers, professional counselors, nurses, psychologists, massage therapists, body workers, educators and those who have experienced trauma are encouraged to attend.

Friday 6:00 – 9:00pm Yoga and Trauma as Transformation
This session will be an exploration and introduction to the many facets of trauma, its origins, and symptoms. Using the eight-limbed practice of yoga and mind/body psychology as our foundation, you will learn how to establish and foster a relationship with trauma that is both healing and transformative. We will ground in affect regulation through movement.
Disordered eating, addiction, anxiety and depression are often the result of unresolved trauma. The intention of a trauma-sensitive yoga practice is greater self-regulation and internal resource building. Ultimately this leads to increased experiences of curiosity, integrity and joy.
Saturday 9:00 – 12:30pm A Yogic Approach to Disordered Eating & Recovery
Eating disorders are often a method of nonverbal communication. The core of disordered eating is psychosomatic dissociation, a state of mutual mistrust between the mind and body that ultimately impedes nourishment. This session offers the opportunity to explore and experience how trauma-sensitive yoga practices can give a voice to the unspoken stories of the body and help reestablish security and trust within the body. You will understand how trauma and eating disorders are related and how to better orient and relate with others amid complex relationships to food and body.
Saturday 2:00 – 5:30pm A Yogic Approach to Addictions & Recovery
When we are addicted (to an emotion, thought pattern, action, person, and/or substance) we feel powerless to resist or exercise choice; we engage in unconscious repetitions that seem to have meaning at the time, but later we find we did not get what we were really after. This session will teach us how to unravel and understand our addictions with practices that help us to listen to the wisdom of our bodies, minds, and heart. Only when we start really listening can we then compassionately make space for these patterns to unravel.
Sunday 9:00 – 1:00pm Yoga for Anxiety and Depression
The symptoms of anxiety and depression move us away from life by inhibiting a secure connection to the present moment. These responses are often rooted in unresolved traumatic events and signify our attempts at coping with uncomfortable emotions and sensations. Trauma-sensitive yoga practices give us the opportunity to redefine the outcome of these past experiences by synchronizing breath, body and mind, while creating a restorative connection to the present moment. This session will present methods for working with these uncomfortable symptoms, including a practice that provides a direct experience of transformation.

Choose 11 modules in total from these four categories:
- Pick at least one 3-day course
- Pick at least one 4-day course
- Pick at least one 5-day Intensive
- Pick the remaining eight courses from any of the four categories (weekend, 3-day, 4-day, or 5-day*)
*You must complete 11 separate modules for graduation. Most modules offered multiple times per year.
