Asheville Yoga Center is one of the most popular yoga schools in the Southeast. Our foundational programs are designed to enhance your personal knowledge, deepen your practice and provide you with the confidence and skills necessary to safely experience or teach yoga.

We offer three types of event:

  • Yoga workshops (non-certification events) 
  • 200 Hour RYT  training courses
  • 300 Hour certified training courses (Advanced Study and Therapeutically-Oriented)

How Meditation Really works: The Psychology of Stillness
The body is the basic ground for meditation practice. Learn to connect with the inherent, self-existing wakefulness that is already present within the body. By cultivating a calm, balanced awareness, we can dissolve habits of reaction that entangle our hearts, and discover freedom in the midst of daily life.

Join Michael for a lecture and discussion about the connection between the mind and body, and how stillness can become an anchor in the turbulence of daily life.

Saturday 9:00am - 12:00pm
Guided by breathwork, and using actively controlled full range movements, we will awaken the concious mobility potential of each of joint in our unique bodies. Each session ends with pranamaya and a guided corpse pose.

From the physical alignment of bones and musculature in yoga postures, to the subtle movements of breath in pranayama practice, learn how to integrate sequences that braid pure physicality with meditative awareness. Learn to balance strength, mobility and flexibility, with a meditative mind.

Beginning with sitting meditation instruction, we will compare teachings from the Yoga and Buddhist traditions, exploring how meditation practice can bring us into stillness and, how that non-reactive awareness can be brought into daily life. Learn to cultivate both Open Awareness and Concentration practices, rooted in the body.

This workshop is open to beginners. Yoga, Meditation and Movement educators will also learn creative ideas to bring to their classes.

Michael Stone is a Buddhist Teacher, Yoga Teacher, psychotherapist and author, who presents traditional meditative tools in plain language to facilitate their greater impact in the world. His teachings integrate traditional practices from the Yoga and Buddhist traditions with the insights of Western Psychology. 10+ Weekends over 9 months – This course is geared mostly towards working one-on-one in private yoga sessions that contain strong therapeutic elements, with each weekend building upon the next.
