The practice of Yoga and Chinese Medicine are two amazing systems of healing with roots dating back thousands of years. These two systems share similar philosophical and practical time-tested knowledge. The goal of this workshop is to teach you how to connect more deeply to the earth and its relationship to the human body. These elegant practices understand the reciprocal nature of energy between the earth and the human body and how to bring balance. We will uncover the big picture truths about health, which are often overlooked, in order to create balanced energy in the body.

Joe Taft believes in the transformational power of yoga. Joe (E-RYT500) is a former Certified Anusara® Yoga instructor who has dedicated himself to the practice of yoga since 1997. He began teaching in 2002. Joe infuses his classes with a deep, life-affirming philosophy through myths, story-telling, Tantra, and his own experience with the trials and tribulations of life. Joe’s in-depth knowledge of body mechanics and his innate understanding of the complexities of movement, allow him to guide his students more fully into their own bodies and lives. Joe enjoys teaching workshops and trainings both in Asheville and out as a traveling instructor.

Leslie’s work has been evolving a rational — non-mystical — approach to Yoga and Yoga Therapy. Leslie uses the immediate reality of human anatomy as a starting point for exploring issues of support and release, stability and freedom, space and boundaries. This process clarifies and validates much traditional wisdom while exposing many long-standing misconceptions and myths. By relating fundamental yogic concepts to their anatomical origins, Leslie’s approach resolves many doctrinal and philosophical differences between schools of Yoga.

    Yoga and the Core Connection
    with Janelle Railey

    Janelle RaileyAll Levels Welcome
    $40

    1:30 – 5:30pm

    2.46 sthira-sukham-āsanam
Practicing yoga with steadiness and ease gives way to experiencing harmony in the body.

We hear and talk about the Core a lot, but do we really know what it is?  This workshop will explore the core principles of our yoga practice: the balance of prana and apana; steadiness and ease; expansion and groundedness; personal and universal inspiration.  We will discover the three dimensional and complex core of our physical body by employing principles from experiential and functional anatomy, pranayama, ashtanga yoga, and pilates.  All levels are invited to join us to experience a deeper connection to our core and give us the tools to release tension while building the strength needed to intelligently access and move from our power center.

    Bio:
Janelle’s yoga classes are informed by her twenty-year endeavor to understand the wisdom of the body in its changing shades and textures. A licensed, practicing psychotherapist, she has sought extensive teachings in Ashtanga, Kripalu, Anusara, Sivananda, Authentic Movement, Experiential Anatomy, Neurobiology, Contemplative Psychotherapy and Vajrayana Buddhism. Janelle is invested in the stories that live in the body, viewing yoga as a method of developing reverence for the body and accessing deep potential, beginning with the “core” connection – anatomically, philosophically, and sensually. Janelle therefore views this deep core connection as something that can benefit any level or style of practitioner. Her classes give attention to the depths of physicality and personality while challenging each practitioner to become a keen investigator of his/her specific, felt experience. www.janellerailey.com

She is passionate about helping students find connections between their practice on the mat and in their everyday lives. Kimberley’s classes will challenge you to practice from a place of honest exploration, acceptance, and personal freedom. The result is a fun and educational class that empowers each student to create their own practice, using their own strengths and weaknesses. What does it feel like to melt into peace? To release the most deeply held tensions and tender places, and experience a clear connection with the present moment?
One of the greatest gifts that yoga and mindfulness practice have to impart to us is their ability to heal us in places we may not have even realized needed attention.

Join us for an afternoon of sweet practices using deep breath, slow movement, and long, surrendering yoga postures, to soften your body, clear your mind and open your heart. Walk away with ways to take the practice of melting back into the moment, back out into the world with you.
