    Spring Flush/Detox Yoga Workshop
    with Liz Harrison

    IMG_8851-webAll Levels Welcome
    2:00 – 5:00pm
    $35

Spring transitions us from the stillness and hibernation of Winter to the annual period of growth, action, and social engagement. We prepare the body for this energetic growth spurt through cleansing and wringing out the old to make way for the new. We literally begin to lighten our load when we till the thawing soil, breaking apart Winter habits or any feelings of being stuck as we ready the soil for our seeds of potential abundance. As days lengthen, the sun ignites our internal fire for creative inspiration, breeding new ideas and intentions. Come rejuvenate with a Spring practice designed to clear away the clutter and to stimulate the creative juices.

    Bio:
Liz Harrison has been practicing yoga asana daily since 2008 and meditation since 2011. She has been sharing the practice with others since 2011. Her classes inspire students to listen to the subtle aspects of their experience, moving beyond the linear mind to encourage intimacy with the present moment. Liz currently studies Hatha Yoga and Ayurveda under the tutelage of Kate Greer and Richmond Dickson.

    Bios:
E-RYT 200, RYT 500 Kimberley’s personal practice began in 2003 as a way to deal with her mother’s illness and passing. Yoga’s ability to calm, soothe, strengthen, and heal led Kimberley to deepen her practice and understanding of this ancient science. Her love of Zen meditation, Vinyasa, and Yin Yoga have inspired her to share the healing powers of yoga and meditation with others. She is passionate about helping students find connections between their practice on the mat and in their everyday lives. Kimberley’s classes will challenge you to practice from a place of honest exploration, acceptance, and personal freedom. The result is a fun and educational class that empowers each student to create their own practice, using their own strengths and weaknesses. Kimberley’s authentic, warm and lighthearted spirit will encourage you to find your own yoga voice! She is registered with the Yoga Alliance at both the E-RYT 200 and 500 hour Advanced Studies levels.

John Puryear began practicing yoga and mindfulness as a way to cope with stress and anxiety. Not only did these practices prove to be quite effective, but they also evolved into an important aspect of his day-to-day life. Always a student, John is equally fascinated with the humble, zen, and accessible approaches offered by teachers like Thich Nhat Hahn, and the more scientific and intricate approaches explored by educators like Rick Hanson. John’s interest in zen and mindfulness extends into his asana practice, where he consistently finds this “moving meditation” to be very grounding and introspective.

John is a former co-owner of Amsa Yoga & Mindfulness Practice Center in Columbia, SC and is a graduate of Asheville Yoga Center’s 230-hour teacher training program. He also loves music and nature and is a goofball at heart.

    Saturday, June 7, 2014: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
    Sunday, June 8, 2014: 8:00 am – 11:30 am, 12:30pm -3:30pm

In this training, we explore principle-based therapeutics, meaning that one thing builds on the next. Understanding this set of principles or actions in the body will help a number of therapeutic issues that students may have. Every session includes asana, anatomy, body mapping and therapeutic hands-on adjustments. You’ll learn techniques to help students in a classroom setting and in a one-on-one private setting. We look at “inner alignment” or how students align attitudinally, because the outer form always reflects the inner state on some level. You will also learn how to help your students feel empowered, so they are more open to your help – and feel they can help themselves. Most importantly, together we’ll create a fun learning environment that allows our knowledge and body awareness to flourish.

To this end we must become aware of the postural patterns that we observe in our practice or in our student’s practice. We are going way beyond just memorizing bones and muscles, instead come sharpen your ability to observe other people’s anatomy to gain information about their practice. There will be tons of hands on adjustments and assists to practice for deepening asana experience based on the patterns you see in them.

Leslie’s work has been evolving a rational — non-mystical — approach to Yoga and Yoga Therapy. Leslie uses the immediate reality of human anatomy as a starting point for exploring issues of support and release, stability and freedom, space and boundaries. This process clarifies and validates much traditional wisdom while exposing many long-standing misconceptions and myths. By relating fundamental yogic concepts to their anatomical origins, Leslie’s approach resolves many doctrinal and philosophical differences between schools of Yoga.
