Kundalini is considered the "yoga of awareness" and is the oldest form of yoga still in practice today. Class usually opens and closes with a musical style of group chanting called Kirtan, sometimes accompanied by instruments, sometimes voices only. This style opens your heart, increases your vitality, builds stamina, endurance and is deeply infused with devotional energy. Kundalini yoga utilizes breath, movement, meditation and mantra to align body, mind and spirit. This style compliments all the other traditions with its ability to take you deeper into yoga while practicing at your own pace. More than anything, Kundalini yoga is about the inside of you, rather than the outside.
Flow (also called vinyasa yoga) synchronizes the movements of the breath with a dynamic sequence of connected yoga postures, which are joined together in a smooth, flowing way, almost like a dance. The breath is an important component of these classes, and the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale.
HOT classes involve a dynamic and challenging practice in a room heated to 90 degrees or above. You will sweat, so please bring your own mat, water bottle and towel. First time students are discouraged from attending HOT classes, as they tend to be fast-paced, and are meant for those already familiar with basic postures.
